New commander for Montclair detectives branch

It is through cooperation will we be able to communicate better and improve as a team.

PROTECTING the community and solving crime is on top of the list for new Montclair detective branch commander, Major Sipho Sydney, 49, who took up the new position on 3 February with a vision for the branch .

Maj Sydney’s policing career began in 1989 when he was based at the Katlehong SAPS for eight years. He later joined Zonkizizwe SAPS for another four years and then spent 10 years at Vosloorus SAPS for 10 years. For the next three years he served at Germiston SAPS in the murder and robbery unit. The major has not left Gauteng until now. “It is a new experience for me to not only become branch commander but also to leave my province and travel to Durban for the first time. When I was a young man, I initially wanted to study law but with careful thinking and a bit more research I decided that joining the police force was a better and noble way to practice law while protecting the nation and its people. Since joining, I never looked back,” He said.

The many years spent in the force allowed Maj Sydney to grow within his career and his latest achievement is a product of his own perseverance and dedication to his job and the people he protects.

He promises changes will be brought into the Montclair branch but only asks of his detectives to give their full co-operation. “It is clear and simple, let’s work together to solve crime and protect the community. It is through co-operation that will we be able to communicate better and improve as a team.”

He assures the Montclair community that he is there for them. “My door is open if you ever feel you need to inform us of a crime, we are prepared to work diligently in getting more information from and for you.”
