50 golden years of love for Woodlands couple

Their never ending love and commitment toward one another is true testament and an inspiration.

LOVE is still in the air for Woodlands couple, Douglas John (Buster) Durant and Marie Joseph Josiane La Hause de Lalouviere, who have been married for 50 years.

The fairytale romance began in Durban, 1960 when the couple laid eyes on each other for the first time while with mutual friends. It was an instant love of the lasting kind as Douglas and Marie stayed an item for several years before getting married at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Musgrave on February 2, 1966 in a small ceremony with just 80 guests.

They settled in their love nest in Woodlands in 1970. “We have lived here ever since and while my wife tend to the duty of bringing up the family and managing the home, I worked as a fire fighter for many years until my retirement in 1990,” said Douglas.

The happy couple spent their years together, raising their children and creating memories, many of which were in the swimming pool where they both shared a passion. “For many years we were involved with the Traybang swimming club and my husband used his skills to coach swimming at the local schools,” said Marie.

Their never-ending love and commitment toward one another is true testament and an inspiration to their two sons, daughter and five grandchildren who are sure to search for the love that their grandparents have shared.

They encourage young couples or married couples to constantly work on their marriage and don’t take either spouse for granted. Their final word – don’t go to bed angry with the other.
