Seven-year-old dies in weekend crash

A further nine people miraculously escaped with only minor injuries.

A SEVEN-year-old child was the only fatality in two separate crashes that injured another 11 people in south Durban this past weekend.

Netcare 911 paramedics were called out to a rear-end crash on the N2 south near Higginson Highway on Saturday, 30 January. It was reported that a bakkie with commuters in the back was travelling southbound when a car hit it from behind.

The impact of the accident killed a seven-year-old girl who died on scene. It was believed that she was sitting in the back of the bakkie at the time of the accident.  A further nine people miraculously escaped with only minor injuries.

Medics treated the injured before taking them to local hospitals.

The following morning, 29 January, Netcare 911 paramedics rushed to a crash site on the M4 north in Jacobs where they found two people had escaped with minor injuries. The vehicle was found on its roof.

The cause of the crashes will form part of police investigations.
