Long-time teacher makes principal

As new principal her goal is to maintain the reputation of the school as a centre of excellence.

THOUSANDS of children have passed through the corridors of Montclair Junior Primary School and many will have fond memories of a teacher who has been there for 30 years, teaching and moulding them into the people they are today.

An English teacher who inspired many is now the newly appointed principal of the school.

Charlene Vogelsang comes highly recommended by her colleagues and parents who have had a hand in electing the new head of the school.

In an interview with the Sun, Mrs Vogelslang said to have the support and trust of the parents and staff to take on the position is humbling. “For six months I was acting principal and I always received great encouragement. I was pleasantly surprised to hear I was taking over from Mrs Kimber, the former principal,” said Vogelsang

Starting her career on the Bluff at Marlborough Park, Vogelsang then moved to Montclair Junior Primary School where she became a permanent member of the family. “Teaching is like second nature to me, it’s all I know and all I ever want to do. I remember when I was a young primary school girl, I would gather the neighbour children and teach them. Ever since then I had this passionate thirst for education,” she said.

As new principal, her goal is to maintain the reputation of the school as a centre of excellence. “We will continue to grow as a school and to make sure it stays a child-orientated facility where the pupils come first,” she added.

Montclair Junior Primary opened its doors in 1971 and has become the centre of learning for surrounding communities. “It is a community controlled school and we want to provide the youth of the community with quality education. I can say with great pride that we hold our heads high and it’s all thanks to the amazing and dedicated teachers who maintain the level of excellence in their work.”
