Burglars on prowl for electronics

Police warn of housebreaking spike.

BRIGHTON Beach SAPS warns the community that housebreakings are on the increase.

Brighton Beach, Fynnlands and Wentworth are the areas of most concern for the police, with the crimes happening mostly from 8am to 2pm and from midnight to 5am.

According to communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, burglar guards and sliding doors are forced open and motor vehicles, flat screen TVs, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, notebooks, cash and clothing are taken.

“Owners of electrical appliances are urged to make an inventory list of all electrical appliances which include the make, model, and IMEI and serial numbers. This list can assist the SAPS to link arrested criminal to cases, and will enable us to track items illegally sold to second hand goods dealers.

Community members are urged to be vigilant of people walking or lingering in the streets, especially in areas with staircases leading to the beach or shopping malls; sport fields; overgrown bushy areas and places where construction or house renovations are taking place,” said Capt Le Roux.

She urges people to take note of the physical appearance of any suspiciously-acting people and phone 10111 to make a report.
