Where to study sound engineering

Follow your love for music.

Sound engineering involves recording and mixing sound and putting effects to vocals, recorded instruments and more. Experts in the various fields of sound technology help to achieve music and sound objectives for TV and radio adverts, movies, TV shows and live concerts to facilitate playback, recording, composition, storage, mixing, analysis, editing and performance.

The two-year City Varsity Diploma Course in sound engineering involves work in the main areas of sound engineering in the current industry, and equips students to become accomplished in the operation and production of location and post-production (sound for film), band recordings and mixing, and music production.
An optional and advised third year affords the opportunity to pursue an advanced diploma in sound engineering where students get to specialise in a vocation of their choice – either post, band or music.

College SA provide two distinct courses in radio broadcasting and sound engineering.

Damelin offers a diploma in sound technology that will equip you with practical skills, including mix down techniques, studio procedures, production techniques, basic studio acoustics and business management.

The Academy of Sound Engineering, housed at the SABC, South Africa’s broadcast hub, has become one of SA’s premier sound engineering schools, but accepts only limited numbers of candidates on each course.
