Murder suspects arrested in hostel

They proceeded to the room and knocked on the door and were greeted with the sound of a gun being cocked.

MONTCLAIR detective, Warrant Officer Rico Naidoo and members of the crime intelligence provincial task team have taken a step forward in solving a murder case committed last November.

On 20 November, Montclair SAPS members attended a matter in South Coast Road where a man was found dead with his throat slit. At the time police had no motive for the killing and urged members of the public to come forward with information. Two months later, light was shed on the case when W/O Naidoo received a tip-off of the suspects.

Following the tip-off, the investigating officer and the task team made their way to SJ Smith Hostel on 13 January, where the suspects were believed to be living. They proceeded to a room and knocked on the door and were greeted with the sound of a gun being cocked. The members then forcibly entered the room and found a man who refused to be searched.

“The members restrained and searched him and found a 9mm Norinco pistol with the serial number erased, inside his trousers,” said communications officer W/O Marimuthu. The suspect was arrested and detained.

Two other suspects were also arrested for the murder. All three will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on 22 January.

Management of Montclair SAPS commend W/O Naidoo and his team on the arrest and swift recovery of the weapon.
