Police action leads to burglar’s arrest

The man became aware of the policeman and tried to escape.

THANKS to the quick action of the Wentworth SAPS Crime Prevention team, a Bluff home owner managed to get back all that was stolen from her house.

During the evening of 28 December, the members, Constables Brandin Naidoo, Graham Mei, Khwela Singh and Tobo noticed a suspicious-looking man carrying a black bag over his shoulders in the Bluff area. The man became aware of the policeman and tried to escape.

The persistent officers gave chase and managed to stop the thief. ” They searched the man and found two gold rings in his possession. The black bag was also searched which contained a laptop, a pair of women’s takkies, sandals, two cell phones, chains and jewellery,” said communication officer, Lt Mabaso Gumede.

After being questioned the man admitted to breaking into a house on the Bluff and he was prepared to take the officers to the house. The officers made their way to the house and found the bedroom window broken.

He was taken to Brighton Beach SAPS where he was detained for two counts of burglary and possession of suspected stolen property.

The members were commended by station commander, Colonel Dion Singh.
