Engen hosts stakeholder’s forum meeting

40 organisations including NGOs, FBOs, community trusts and civic organisations attended the networking session

Engen Refinery recently held a successful communications stakeholders forum meeting. Some 40 organisations including NGOs, FBOs, community trusts and civic organisations from the surrounding areas of Austerville, Merebank, Wentworth Bluff, Lamontville and Umlazi attended the networking session. “The networking session was aimed at broadening Engen’s relationship with community stakeholders for the mutual benefit of all parties,” said Thandeka Cele, public affairs manager at Engen Refinery. “It is only through the collaboration with the community that Engen will be in a position to play a part in improving the socio-economic plight of the refinery’s neighbour,” she added.

The event also gave the community the opportunity to enrich their understanding of the purpose and structure of the Engen Community Stakeholder Forum (ECSF). “The ECSF which convenes four times per year, aims to have constructive engagements with community stakeholders. As such, it creates a platform for the sharing of information between stakeholders around pertinent issues,” said Cele.

According to attendees, the evening was constructive with many mutually beneficial ideas shared. Jehan Zaib, general manager of Engen Refinery said: “The Network session was extremely well attended, which I believe is a positive sign that the neighbours of the refinery are as committed as Engen to ensure that we continue to build a collaborative relationship built on openness, trust and mutual respect.”
