Woman president makes history at Bluff BC

On Sunday the club's annual general meeting was held and for the first time since the amalgamation of the men and women, Bluff Bowling Club has a woman president.

IT was again a busy weekend at Bluff Bowling Club when, on Saturday, the last of the club competitions was played.

In the final of the drawn mixed pairs Eddie Human and Paula Osman beat George Santos and Ronel Morel.

In the afternoon the annual prize giving was held. In the women’s competitions, winners’ trophies were handed out by the president of Wentworth Bowling Club for which the club is most grateful.

The winners were open singles Sarie Bisset, senior singles Glynis Mackrory, point singles Lilah Nel, novice singles Paula Osman, nominated pairs Elize Stapelberg and Jay Retief, drawn pairs Sarie Bisset and Koekie Koekemoer, drawn trips Daphne Reinhardt, Lilah Nel and Paula Osman, drawn fours Daphne Reinhardt, Elize Stapelberg, Jay Retief and Kitty Schaefer. The victrix ludorum was won by Elize Stapelberg.

In the mixed competitions, the winners were drawn pairs Eddie Human and Paula Osman, nominated pairs Clinton and Sarie Bisset, drawn trips Eddie Human, Noel Morel and Patricia Buys, drawn fours, Dave Le Roux, Bridget White , Ronel Morel and Patricia Buys.

Among the men’s competitions, the winners were open singles Eddie Human, senior singles Alex Fisher, novice singles Harvey Simpkin, drawn pairs Clinton Bisset and the late Dave Vincent, drawn trips Clinton Bisset, Hilton Lassak and Kurt Spack, drawn fours Dave Rowe, Jorge Santos, Kurt Spack and Mouse Ratcliffe.

The rest of the committee is vice president Eddie Human, secretary Elize Stapelberg and treasurer Dave Rowe. The following portfolios on the committee will be covered by greens Dudley Dorrofield, house Eddie Human, catering Patricia Buys, bar Norman Robinson and Steve Baker, fundraising Jay Retief, tournaments Gary Moffat. Competition secretaries are Chrissie Smith and Kurt Spack.

The women’s selection committee comprises of Janice Rodgers, Sarie Bisset, Glynis Mackrory and Bridget White. The men are Gary Moffat, Greg Dorrofield and Eddie Human. The auditor as usual is Glynis Mackrory, for which the club is grateful.

On Friday, 18 December there is candlelight bowls at 6.30pm. All bowlers and potential bowlers are most welcome. The attendance draw stands at R160 and if not won, it will go up by the same amount every Friday.
