Pleading for traffic calming in Atherstone Place

The worst is that a lot of the New Forest High children trying to cross near the shopping centre have to risk their lives trying to cross to get to and from school.

EDITOR – Yesterday afternoon our beloved cat was knocked over in Atherstone Place, Woodlands.

He was a step away from our pavement and the accident was easily avoidable.

We have no idea who did it or if they even tried to avoid him and it has hurt our family deeply. This year on the same road, a father and daughter were knocked over on the pavement.

Tragically the little girl didn’t make it and died on route to hospital. The cars fly around the bend and race up and down the road, trying to avoid Kenyon Howden. Between Norwich Cresent, Atherstone Place and Kenyon Howden we hear cars racing daily.

The worst is that a lot of the New Forest High children trying to cross near the shopping centre have to risk their lives trying to cross to get to and from school.

The other issue is the big circle near the top of Kenyon Howden. Cars coming from Yellowwood Park never stop or yield for other cars. There is a constant stream coming from that side, making it dangerous even for cars to try to get across.

I am asking as a concerned parent for a robot to be placed at the circle instead, thus giving cars a safe passage to cross and even more importantly, for the people who have to cross there. Then down Kenyon Howden, if it’s possible to put speed humps especially near the Steers corner, as cars reverse out of there while trying to navigate the cars flying down the road.

Nothing will bring our cat back. We will never get answers as to how he wasn’t missed or who did it but it’s time to start slowing down cars on these roads. We need safer roads for the people who use them. Too many lives are taken due to speed. I am pleading for robots or speed humps to be installed.
