Crafty fun evening at Yellowwood Park WI

Three teams were each given a box with unknown items and they had to make an animals’ in ten minutes.

YELLOWWOOD Park WI president Vanessa Wilesmith opened the fun evening by welcoming all members and many friends from other institutes who joined them.

Special welcome to Maureen Lavis, executive member and Barbara Ilsley, group secretary.

It was wonderful for YWP WI to see them all and thoughts went out to those members not present. The Mary Stewart Collect was said in unison and the group executive officially opened the meeting. Some domestic issues were discussed and the secretaries report read out, along with a thank you letter from the SPCA at Toti which the WI always supports and a letter for the Floral Congress convener, advising on future events.

Birthday members for December and January were Joan Prenger, Mary Rust, Linda Hewer, Sharon Quail, Jan Kirk, Norma Chaplin and Maria McDonald. There were wished a happy day.

Thanks were extended to all members who assisted at the Botanic Gardens and to members who assist with Meals on Wheels. The white elephant stall at the night market was a great success and YWP WI was able to supply food parcels to needy families. Thank you Sharon Quail.

The Christmas braai was also a great success. YWP WI members will be delivering goodie bags to the seniors at their next meeting. Thanks to Robyn for storing the bags. The raffles were drawn and the money board and then it was on with the tea break and time for the mastercrafter to take place. Three teams were each given a box with unknown items and they had to make animals within 10 minutes. They were a monkey, teddy bear and a lion. Fortunately there were two first-class, very knowledgeable judges in Colin Vermaak and Gavin Hegter. They were really on the ball, considering they had never been to a WI meeting before. Thank you to them both for their great knowledge. The winner was Yellowwood Park making a lion’s face. A lot of good work was produced, with lots of encouragement from other members.

The meeting closed with the Women’s Institute prayer and good wishes from the president for everyone to enjoy a merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. Take good care, members and see you in 2016.
