Brazen burglar’s stolen clothes gave him away

The clothes were stolen from a Bluff home a week earlier

A BRAZEN housebreaker was caught on Thursday, 12 November, wearing the clothes he stolen from a Bluff home a week earlier.

Responding to a housebreaking in Marine Drive on 12 November, Brighton Beach SAPS’ Constable Thobeka Shabalala arrested a local man, wearing clothing she recognised from a circulated police report.

The clothes were stolen, along with electrical tools worth R5,150 from another Marine Drive home on Tuesday, 3 November.

During questioning, the man confessed to the housebreaking and additional investigating by Cst Samukelo Mamele led to the arrest of an accomplice.

The duo, a 26-year-old Bluff man and a 27-year-old from Wentworth, pleaded guilty to theft and housebreaking with intent to steal on Tuesday, 17 November and were sentenced to three years in prison.

Brighton Beach SAPS management commends Csts Shabalala and Mamela for their action which lead to the three-year sentence.
