New Forest dux ends school year on high note

Attending New Forest High was an experience that helped Emile Kannieppan become the person he is today.

The school year has ended and class the of 2015 matrics have left their schools with bitter-sweet emotions. Spending almost half their lives at school, many will leave with great memories of friendships and lessons taught not only in their subjects but also life. Emile Kannieppan (18) a prefect and newly named dux, shared the same sentiments of millions of matriculants across the country.

Attending New Forest High was an experience that helped him become the person he is today. “The school offered me a lot of opportunities that allowed me to find myself and help me choose a career path,” said Kannieppan. The A student will be following a career in accountancy, thanks to the motivation and help of his favourite teacher, Mrs Moodley who is also his accounting teacher “Her passion for accounting has fueled my passion to become one. Her enthusiastic teaching and her belief in her pupils definitely made my career decision easy,” he said.

He owes his success to his parents and teachers who have been his support structure over the years.

Kannieppan has spent school years taking part in the robotics club when they competed on national level and have won on numerous occasions. He was also captain of the debate team. He advises the class of 2016 and other pupils entering high school level to make use of the opportunities offered at thier school. “Have a passion for learning and maintain a steady support group who can help you through the hard times. be motivated and become motivation for your fellow pupils as you can help each other succeed,” he added.

New Forest introduces its newly inducted head boy, Ross Hussey and head girl Sthembile Yeni, and their five deputies, who are ready to take on the task of leadership. The Super 7, as they liked to be called, have expressed their excitement and an overwhelmed, they are ready to rise to the challenge. “We went to prefect camp with Ms Norval who trained us in leadership and taught us on how to be ambassadors for the school. In terms of our duties as prefects and studying we have a strict understanding of time management,” said head girl, Sthembile Yeni.

Deputy principal Mr Linda Shezi said : “We are as proud of our newly elected leaders as we are of outgoing ones. At New Forest we believe in grooming all our learners for leadership positions, whether at school or in their future careers. Guided by our core values of integrity, respect, commitment and compassion, we aim to produce honorable leaders and citizens.We look forward to these young leaders contributing to taking New Forest to greater heights. We are very confident that they will leave a mark in their tenure.”
