Maimed mannequins focus for anti-violence campaign

"We wanted to create awareness that violence is real."

MEMBERS of the Montclair SAPS and the Victim Support unit held a campaign at the Montclair Shopping Centre in support of 16 days of no violence against women and children.

We wanted to create awareness that violence is real

Pamphlets, stickers and sweet packs were handed to the shoppers. The main attraction of the campaign were the mannequins who were ‘victims’ of abuse. The battered mannequins showed in great detail how a woman or child can suffer at the hands of abuse, sometimes on a daily basis.

Member of the victim support team, Belinda Harcombe said her team decided to put on a graphic display of what domestic violence looks like. “We wanted to create awareness that violence is real. Brenda Neal, manager of the SAPS Montclair Victim Support Centre, came up with the idea of the campaign and planned everything, from organising mannequins and dressing and ‘beating them up’,” said Harcombe.

The Victim Support team thanks everyone who assisted to make the day a success and also big thanks to the community for donations towards the cause.

Communications officer, W/O Poobalan Marimuthu said management of Montclair SAPS thank the victim support members for taking the initiaive to educate the community through awareness of abuse.
