Arrests buoy festive season anti-crime strategy

15 people were arrested for various crimes

FIFTEEN arrests were made over the weekend during Brighton Beach SAPS’ festive season crime prevention campaign.

On Saturday, 21 November Brighton Beach police officers took to the streets to conduct operations as part of the national police plan for the festive season.

“Activities included foot and vehicle patrols, stop and search activities, blue light patrols, raiding unlicensed liquor premises, tracing wanted suspects, recovering stolen property, seizing dangerous weapons, enforcing by-laws, intensifying patrols at identified hotspots and hosting crime awareness activities on public safety at local shopping malls,” said communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

During the operation PHOTO for illustration onloy and heroin, dagga, beer, a stolen computer screen and knives were recovered. In urban areas, 21 patrols were conducted, while the business area saw 14 and the industrial area had seven. There were 11 beach patrols and 24 ATMs were monitored. A total of 16 shopping mall visits were made and eight blue light patrols were held. Twenty-seven cars, 67 people and 60 premises were searched. One petrol station was visited, along with 12 financial institutions.

“Brighton Beach SAPS management thanks the vispol and detective services, eThekwini cluster task team, public order policing unit, Metro Police and Community Orientated Policing members,” said Le Roux.

Also thanked were overall commander, Brighton Beach SASP detective head, Lieutenant Colonel Jayson McGrey and operational commander, Captain Louise Le Roux.
