Call to enter Interpret Durban

This year’s theme, Durban Flavour is all about food, and asks the city’s creatives to interpret how the shared culture of food ties us all together.

INTERPRET Durban is calling for participants for this year’s event, which celebrates six years of Durban creative excellence, on Friday, 18 December to be held at 8 Morrison Street.

Submissions close at noon on 9 December.

Interpret Durban 6 (#ID6 for short) is a creative competition that covers photography, video, illustration, and visual art, and culminates in a night of amazing exhibitions and live music.

This year’s theme, Durban Flavour is all about food, and asks the city’s creatives to interpret how the shared culture of food ties us all together.

This year, the #ID6 team has put together over R200,000 in prizes across four categories, and sees sponsors ranging from international heavy-hitters like Red Bull to local Durban heroes like Lion Match, Mr Price Home and African Art Centre.

Over the years Interpret Durban has built a name in the industry, not only for their amazing prizes but moreover, the high calibre of entries that come pouring in each year to contest for one of the top spots. This year’s prizes include two national campaign opportunities with Mr Price Home and Lion Safety Matches. There will also be a wild card category, introduced by Mr Price Home, which will see one artist selected from any of the four categories for a feature in a R40,000 collaboration with the Durban born retail giant. There are also amazing hampers, flights and a host of other prizes sure to get creatives buzzing with interpretations with the right ingredients to take a podium position.

This year’s categories and themes are: Professional photography – Durban dishes; Illustration/design – Flavours of food and fire; Video – a taste of Durban; and Visual arts – Flavours of Durban. Interpret Durban is the kind of incentive artists want, but seldom get so spread the word, get involved, and let’s Interpret Durban.

Visit www.interpretdurban.com to download the brief form for one of the four categories mentioned above, or follow the conversation on all social platforms using the hashtag #ID6

Time is ticking and the deadline will be here before you know it, so don’t delay. Submissions for Interpret Durban 6 close at noon on December 9.
