Photo clues lead police to hijackers

TWO men were arrested last week for hijacking a man in Montclair at the end of October.

On Thursday, 29 October a motorist in a white VW Golf was hijacked by two men in Roland Chapman Drive.

While racing off in the car, the driver crashed into a wall near Mega City and the two hijackers fled, leaving behind a cellphone and gun.

During his investigation, Montclair SAPS’ Warrant Officer Rico Naidoo examined the phone and found a picture of a man and woman dressed in school uniform. At a shop that sells school uniforms, he was able to determine what school the uniforms belonged to.

Armed with this and other information, he and W/O Inggs and Brighton Beach SAPS crime intelligence members arrested a man linked to the hijacking on Wednesday, 11 November. The following day a second person, a 15-year-old, was also arrested.

“Montclair SAPS management commends the members for their commitment and dedication in arresting the men,” said communications officer, Warrant Officer Poobalan Marimuthu.
