Bayhead link road to N2 shelved

This was supposed to have been started in 2012 and would have taken several years to complete.

EDITOR – With reference to ‘Concerned Resident’s’ comment on the proposed Bayhead Link Road.

This road was originally proposed in the media, to relieve the truck traffic congestion on Bayhead Road by diverting such traffic onto Solomon Mahlangu Road (Edwin Swales Drive).

This was opposed by most Bluff residents (myself included) as this would seriously aggravate the existing congestion on our only access road to and from the Bluff.

My queries in this regard, advised by a top transport planner, was that the intention was to build a bridge over Solomon Mahlangu (meaning no join), with a road continuing around Jacobs, over the M4 southern freeway and South Coast Road to continue up the Umhlatazana Valley and link onto the N2 highway at Coedmore Quarries.

This was supposed to have been started in 2012 and would have taken several years to complete.

Information now provided by Carlos Estevez, the head of transport planning for Durban, at the Cutler Complex meeting on 21 October which was arranged by Phelamanga Projects, is that the proposal has been shelved for the present and there is no set deadline to start the project.
