YWP WI in holiday mood with festive party

Congratulations to all competition winners.

ALTHOUGH it was slightly overcast and Yellowwood Park Women’s Institute (YWP WI) was missing a few members, they had their usual evening of fun at their recent meeting.

President Vanessa Wilesmith opened the meeting with the Mary Stewart Collect and welcomed all members and asked that they keep Dot Montocchio in their thoughts at the moment and any other members who are unwell.

Unfortunately the speaker of the evening had to cancel at the last moment but they will be back in January. The secretary read the minutes and a letter from Evelyn House thanking YWP WI for all the goodies send during Congress. The treasurer read her report, noting that YWP WI is solvent and that hopefully everyone has put their name down for the big Christmas party on 8 November. Remember chairs, plates, cutlery, glasses and meat and beverages of course. All friends and partners are also invited at R30 per person. Advise Wendy Henderson. It was decided that from January 2016, meetings will commence at 7pm.

Many thanks as always to the members who continually do Meals on Wheels and volunteer at Botanic Gardens. The next duty will be on 28 November. Although items have been collected for the community fair, with thanks to Robyn Murray and Sharon Quail, no-one is sure when it will commence or where it will be held. Keep an eye out for details.

Birthday members for the month were Gerda Viljoen, Jean Ball and Sheila Philogene.

Happy holidays and a safe return to Wendy Henderson and Linda Melson – may they have a great holiday.

In November YWP WI will host a fun ‘Master Crafter’ evening where it hopes to see lots of members participating. They also want a bumper sales table and there will be a money board. YWP WI hopes to deliver goodie bags to seniors and once again, many thanks to Robyn for storing these.

After a lot of chatter during the tea break, it was on with the competition results which were handed to the scribe by the president. Thanks as always to Linda Melson who also advised of the workshops which will be held in the new year. The fun-filled evening ended with the women’s institute prayer.
