FRIDAY, 27 NOVEMBER: New Forest High’s 60th reunion, together with founder members who attended Woodlands, Southlands, Montclair, Assumption Convent and Mowat Park at Durban Wanderers Club. Email Eric at predman@polka.co.za for more information.

WEDNESDAY, 28 OCTOBER: Social bingo at Fynnlands Soccer Club (every Wednesday) at 7pm for 7.30pm. All are welcome. For more information call Debbie on 082-040-7855.

SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: Dutch Reformed Church Fynnland hosts a fête and Christmas market from 8am until noon, at the church hall, 303 Lighthouse Road Bluff. Breakfast will start at 7am. The usual pancakes, pudding, vetkoek, home baked cakes/bread and homemade crafts will be sale.

SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: Join Ingrid Shevlin, journalist and food critic, and the South African Writers’ Circle from 9am until 2.30pm for a tasty review at Gecko Culinary Adventures in Musgrave Road, for a morning of cooking demonstrations, being shown the ropes on writing a review and sitting down to a delicious meal at lunchtime.

SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: Catch the third and final in a series of three DVDs on the subject of what is unseen at St George’s Church in Admiral Road, Bluff at 2pm. Admission costs R10 per person and refreshments will be served after the hour-long DVD.

SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: Mountain Backpackers Club hikers will tackle the African Fish Eagle trail with lots of birdlife through the Beachwood mangroves and along the north bank of the Umgeni river. Meet at Green Hub Durban at 8am to leave at 8.15am. The hike will be cancelled if it rains. Take cash for tea at Springfield SPCA at the halfway mark. The trail is about 13km long. SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: KZN Quilters Guild Quilt show and open day at 9am until noon. Enjoy the quilt show, shops, quilting demonstrations and teas. MONDAY, 2 NOVEMBER: AGM of the Yellowwood Park Ratepayers Association takes place at Yellowwood Park Civic Centre at 6.30pm to elect committee members. All ratepayers and residents are invited.

THURSDAY, 12 NOVEMBER: KwaZulu-Natal Branch of the South African Military History Society will meet at 7pm for 7.30pm at the Murray Lecture Theatre, Department of Civil Engineering, University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College campus. Speakers will be Charles Whiteing on ‘poppy power’ and Donald Davies on ‘four little whalers from Durban to the Mediterranean in 1940’. Visitors are welcome to attend. SATURDAY, 21 NOVEMBER: Kloof Gorge day hike upstream to two waterfalls with the Mountain Backpackers Club. Hikers will leave at 8.30am from the picnic site carpark. There is a small entrance fee. Take sun protection, hat, water, snacks and a rain jacket. Moderate fitness is required. Confirm with John beforehand. Call John McGovern on 082-659-5111.

WEDNESDAY, 2 DECEMBER: Mountain Backpackers Club hosts a beach walk from Umdloti to Umhlanga over a distance of about 12,5km on sand. Meet at 8am at Umdloti beach carpark to walk to Umhlanga and back.
