CROW giraffe leads Shova fundraiser

Money to support Spring babies.

MORE than R10,000 was raised for the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) by a team of cyclists led by a giraffe in this year’s Amashova Durban Classic.

On Sunday, 18 October the Wheels for CROW team, headed by Keagan Walker in a full giraffe suit, completed the 65km race and raised money to support the Yellowwood Park-based rehabilitation centre. The funds will be used to buy milk formula for the Spring babies that have arrived at CROW over the past eight weeks.

“It was a really challenging race but I enjoyed every minute and am extremely happy with the outcome. The heat and wind were real factors and quickly drained my energy, but fortunately for me, there were loads of supporters and riders who cheered me to the finish line. I will certainly be taking on more challenges like this in the future and look forward to pushing myself in the name of a worthy cause,” said Walker.

CROW director, Claire Hodgkinson said she and her staff were blown away by his commitment to the campaign and are grateful to have passionate individuals like the Wheels for CROW team who are willing to put their bodies on the line in aid of KZN’s injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife.
