Shoebox pledges sought from Bluff residents

Donate to support children in need.

THE Santa Shoebox Project has come to the Bluff and the community is urged to make a pledge to ensure a festive Christmas for underprivileged children.

The annual Santa Shoebox Project collects and distributes gifts to children throughout the country through local distribution groups.

The 2015 target is at least 100,000, with the Bluff hoping to get 650 pledges.

Some 456,004 gifts have been handed over in the last nine years to children at orphanages, children’s homes and care centres in SA and Namibia.

To pledge gifts for the Bluff, go to www.santashoebox.co.za, register as a supporter and select Bluff in the form. Gifts will be given to the selected children during November.

Gifts are to be made of prescribed items: a toothbrush and toothpaste, facecloth and soap, something educational and/or stationery item(s), sweets, a toy or something fun and age appropriate clothing (new not used), all housed in a shoebox. For older children sanitary towels and deodorant are also requested. Baby toiletries and nappies are also needed.

The box is then wrapped or decorated and labelled with the chosen labels sent by the Santa Shoe Box Project for the child or children selected for you when you register and dropped off at the drop off point.

The drop off point for Bluffites is the Motorcycle Club on Tara Road on Friday and Saturday, 30 and 31 October. The Play Early Learning Centre is also available to those wanting to drop off shoebox gifts before 30 October. The address is 4 Gilgit Road, Merebank.
