Murder down by half in Montclair

Stats reveal some positives and some negatives.

THE national crime statistics have been released and in the South Durban area, the number of reported murders is down by four for 2014 to 2015, while reported drug-related crimes are up by 43.

Brighton Beach police station’s jurisdiction had 10 murders for the April 2014 to March 2015 year, up by three, while Montclair police station had eight, half of the previous year and Wentworth had 10, which is one more than the year before.

There was a total of 2,131 drug-related crimes registered, with 629 from Wentworth, 706 from Montclair and 796 from Brighton Beach.

Sexual offences were down at all stations, with Brighton Beach reduced by 33.3%, Montclair by 37.1% and Wentworth by 5.9%.

Property crimes totalled 1,698 for all three stations, while hijacking, including trucks, totalled 149, up by 146 in the 2013 to 2014 period.
