September WI meeting is a jolly affair

After a few jokes and delicious tea, the meeting closed.

BUSHLANDS Women’s Institute’s (WI) September meeting was a jolly affair with lots of jokes and laughs.

President Nora Brown opened the meeting by welcoming all.

The only absentees were Marie Brown who is in Australia, Kay McKee and Hazel Lochner who is recovering from pneumonia and was wished a speedy recovery. The Mary Stewart Collect was recited.

Birthday girls Marie Brown, Lyn Rudolph and Hazel Caldwell were wished for their ‘special days’ on 12, 16 and 18 September respectively. Linda Bootes read out emails from Marie Brown and past member Jacky and it was nice hearing about their activities.

Nora thanked those who worked so hard to make the 50th birthday the success it was.

A round robin was held, the most disturbing news being from Lyn Rudolph who reported that her car had been written off and had to be scrapped.

The raffle was won by Yvonne Lane. The results of the competition kindly judged by Margaret Everett were: Craft: First A Croucamp 96. Homemaking: First L Bootes 60. Merit: First L Rudolph and L Bootes 96, second Daphne du Plessis 95, third Marlene Brown. Best bloom/plant: First Marlene Brown 95.

After a few jokes and delicious tea, the meeting closed.
