Garden club to mark Spring with plant sale

Members receive a quarterly programme during the year detailing forthcoming meetings, competitions, speakers and tea duties.

NATALIA Garden Club will hold a Spring hat plant sale at this month’s meeting on Thursday, 10 September at the Pigeon Club in Tara Road, Bluff commencing at 9.30am.

New members and visitors are welcome.

Members are encouraged to take along plants to raise funds for the club.

The speaker will be Nick Evan, whose talk is entitled ‘amphibian and reptile conservation’.

The club is sad to lose honorary member Cynthia Abbey due to retirement, as well as Pam Theeruth who died last month. Sincere appreciation to Jennifer Schoeman from Plant Nursery, Bluff for donating bulbinella bulbine plants to members.

The competition results at August’s club meeting were:

Decorative (African magic):

  • Karolina Kotze 9½,
  • Daphne du Plessis and Rita Ndlovu 6,
  • Marlene Jones 5.

Cultural (aloe bloom):

  • Lettie van Jaarsveld 8.

Best bloom:

  • Nora Brown and Joyce Huygens 10,
  • Karolina Kotze and Daphne du Plessis 9,
  • Yusimi Zayas 9.

From my garden:

  • Joyce Huygens and Bev Beard 10,
  • Lettie van Jaarsveld 9½,
  • Karolina Kotze 8.

Best pot plant:

  • Nora Brown 9,
