Pedestrians warned of armed robbery spate

Public urged to refrain from taking shortcuts in secluded areas

A SPATE of armed robberies in the Clairwood and Jacobs area has put Brighton Beach police on high alert.

Most incidents occur in the early and late evenings, and most involve the use of knives.

Police have noted that in these heists, cash and mobile devices are being taken by force. “Community members are urged to refrain from taking shortcuts when walking through parks and bushy areas. Do not text on your mobile device while walking in the street, or listen to music on ear phones as this affects your vigilance and level of alertness,” said Brighton Beach SAPS spokesman, Capt Louise Le Roux.

The perpetrators work as individuals and in pairs.

Anyone with information about those perpetrating these crimes is urged to contact Brighton Beach SAPS’ detective services branch on 031-451-8017.
