Brighton Beach police help collar man.

THE Brighton Beach SAPS task team in conjunction with Umlazi crime intelligence and Umlazi SAPS arrested an infamous murderer in Umlazi yesterday, 2 September.

Following information they received, the police went to D section and arrested a 30-year-old man who had with him a pistol with the serial number filed off, magazines and 26 live rounds of ammunition.

Police believe he is responsible for numerous murder and robberies.

“It is also believed he is linked to a case in Harding where a group of heavily armed men accosted cash-in-transit security guards at a cash and carry store and robbed them of an undisclosed sum of cash.

The men shot and killed a security guard and while fleeing they shot and killed two police officers from Harding. The police vehicle caught alight and both police officers were burnt in the vehicle. A third police officer survived after she was rescued from the burning vehicle by members of the community,” said SAPS KZN media spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker.

Following the man’s arrest, police searched his home in Harding and found a revolver with one live round of ammunition. He was charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will appear in the Umlazi magistrate’s court soon. The guns and ammunition will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in these killings and any other crimes.
