Off-duty cop shoots neighbour’s mugger
Mobeni Heights man chases down attackers.
AN off-duty policeman came to the aid of his Mobeni Heights neighbour and chased down her attackers, shooting one in the leg on Wednesday, 19 August.
A 36-year-old woman who was standing outside her home in Willow Grove was allegedly assaulted by three men, who ran off with her handbag and cell phone.
Hearing her cries for help, her neighbour, a member of the SAPS Presidential Protection Services, gave chase.
During an altercation with the three men, he shot one in the leg, but the other two escaped.
The woman’s handbag was returned to her and the shot man was handed over to Bayview SAPS. He was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.
Once discharged, he will be charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances and is expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court.
