Alleged serial rapist arrested

Six known cases in Montclair, Wentworth but police appeal for other victims to make statements

A 39-year-old alleged serial rapist was arrested yesterday, 10 August by the Brighton Beach task team, following a spate of cases reported in Wentworth and  Montclair areas since January this year.

The suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon on six counts of rape.

The man’s modus operandi was to lure women between the ages of 22 and 38 years by promising them employment.  He would then walk with each woman into a secluded area and threaten them with a knife before raping them. He also carried a water bottle and instructed the victims to wash themselves before he raped them.

Cases of rape were opened at Wentworth and Montclair police stations since the rapes took place in those areas.

Police appeal to other victims who may have been raped by the same person to step forward and submit their statements to their nearest police station, as the investigation is ongoing. SAPS management welcomes the arrest, especially in light of women’s month. “Our detectives will gather enough evidence to make sure that the suspect rots in jail if found guilty.“
