All-night shunting must be curtailed

There's also an acidic smell in the air from time to time.

EDITOR – There is an unacceptable level of noise and air pollution on the Bluff, especially along Fynnlands and all along the railway tracks.

Shunting that takes place all day and night.

While daytime shunting is still fine, all night shunting is unacceptable. Even if it were to stop at 10pm and start again at 5am, it would be manageable to be able to catch up on sleep for six hours. Transnet seems to get their timing perfect at 10pm, midnight and at 2.30am and to add insult to injury, the trains hoot before they pull off. And as everyone knows, train hooters are extremely loud and more especially so during the quiet of the night.

I have spoken to the Transnet spokesman and the only thing he has said, as did others, is we should look to buy property elsewhere.

The Wentworth office telephone number is 031-361-5205 or 031-361-5346. If more people call them every night when the noise is unacceptably high, maybe something could be done about the situation. The Transnet environmental officer’s email address is mthombeni@eims.co.za. All I hope for is that there will be no work done beween 10pm and 4am

There’s also an acidic smell in the air from time to time.

We as residents are being affected, thus we have to apply pressure on Transnet to not make our lives uncomfortable because we too have jobs that add value to our economy.
