ECD Forum pilot extends to Isipingo

Success means expansion for ECD forums.

FOLLOWING the success of the Wentworth Early Childhood Development (ECD) Forum, the South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management office (ABM) will be expanding to Isipingo.

Save the Children, which was instrumental in the success of both the Wentworth and Lamontville ECD forums, allowing them to receive national recognition, has been commissioned by the SDB ABM to found a Greater Isipingo ECD Forum.

“Evidence has shown that investing in early education and care is one of the most cost effective ways to improve educational achievement and increase skills, wellbeing and productivity. The main objectives of the Greater Isipingo ECD Forum is to promote capacity building of child minders, sharing of good practices, collective action and provide monitoring and mentoring to ECD centres,” said a press release from the Wentworth ECD Forum.

An ECD orientation workshop was held for people from the area and will be followed with training for office bearers.

“We would like to see the child minders in the homeplay and the community ECD centres being supported through the ECD Forum. We want to raise healthy children in the SDB communities. This means supporting initiatives and prioritising the healthy, cognitive, social and emotional development of our young children,” said SDB ABM development manager, Eurakha Singh.

Anyone operating crèches, community ECD centres or home play centres in Isipingo Hills, Isipingo, Lotus Park, Dakota Beach, Merebank, Jacobs, Clairwood and Bluff should call Bianca Burn on 031-451-9817 for information on the forum in that area.
