Woman burnt in kettle attack

Woman deceived through text message and lured into attack.

A WOMAN who went to visit her boyfriend was attacked with a kettle of scalding water by a second woman on Sunday, 21 June.

Believing she was corresponding with her boyfriend, a woman arrived at his home and let herself in after he told her via text message to enter the home as it was unlocked.

As she entered the house, she saw he was asleep and a woman rushed at her with a kettle. She claims the other woman attacked her and threw the hot water on her. She sustained severe burn wounds to her neck and chest and needed treatment.

Brighton Beach SAPS detective services’ Warrant Officer Marius Van Der Looy tracked down the woman’s 29-year-old attacker at her workplace on the Bluff on Tuesday, 23 June, where she was arrested. She appeared in the Durban Regional Court the following day on a charge of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

“Warrant Officer Marius Van Der Looy is commended for the swift manner in which he dealt with the investigation and arrest of the suspect,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
