Hijacked linen load recovered from hostel

Police quickly track down stolen goods.

THROUGH a tracking system, Montclair SAPS were quickly able to find and recover boxes of linen stolen in a hijacking on Friday, 19 June.

A truck driver and his assistant stopped on South Coast Road in Clairwood to go to a shop. When they returned, they were threatened by two armed men who forced them into the truck.

They were ordered to drive to the Glebelands Hostel at gunpoint, where the 200 boxes of linen were offloaded and they were told to drive away.

The owner of the truck contacted police with a tracking report and they were quickly able to determine where the truck had stopped.

Through investigations, police officers from the crime prevention and patrol van were able to conclude that the stolen boxes were stored within a locked storeroom at the hostel. When they forced open the lock, they found 59 boxes still in the building.

“Montclair SAPS management commends the members for the speedy recovery of the goods,” said communications officer, W/O Poobalan Marimuthu.
