Weigh-in on national junior super chef contest

THE first of what is hoped will be many junior super chef competitions has been launched, where children from the ages of eight to 13 urged to enter.

Hirsch’s and Defy have combined to launch the competition which starts in May and runs through to July, when the finals will be held. CEO of the Hirsch Group, Allan Hirsch, said: “We have noticed a lot of interest from children with regards to the cooking appliances we stock. This made us realise there is an opportunity for Hirsch’s to assist with the encouragement of young chefs. We have partnered with Defy – a leading brand of cookware in South Africa – to run this fun, exciting project in all our stores. Young chefs will get an opportunity to cook with recently launched products in front of an audience.”

He continued: “We really believe it’s a great opportunity to encourage children to learn to use appliances correctly from a young age as well as assisting in the kitchen and we’ve have been excited by the response we have had so far”.
