USA beckons Bluff singing talent

A local singer has been selected to sing in a showcase in America.

BLUFFITE Monique Nel hopes to sing her way to success in Orlando, USA after being selected to compete in the Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in June.

The 17-year-old entered a local singing competition, unaware that it was affiliated to an international scouting agency, Just You Model and Artist Management. The talented artist was not only successful in the local contest, but was selected to attend the International Talent Showcase at Monte Casino in October 2014.

She was elated to hear she had been chosen to represent SA at the ARTS in June. She heads to the States on 14 June, where she will show off her singing, acting and modelling skills in the hopes of being scouted.

“If, I mean when, a recording company wants to sign me, I am hopeful I will be able to move to the US and make it big in the entertainment industry,” said an excited Nel, who has been singing since she was six.

Last year, she branched out and took part in her first acting role in the Young Performers Project’s production of Footloose. “I had no idea I could act and was overjoyed to learn I was good at it.”

Nel was accepted into the New York Film Academy, but has postponed going in order to complete her psychology degree.
