Sweet arrests follow sugar bale theft

For the past two weeks, men have been jumping onto trucks, removing nets and stealing sugar bales off trucks.

MONTCLAIR SAP crime prevention arrested three men for stealing sugar bales off a truck in South Coast Road, Clairwood on Monday, 20 April.
Police believe the sugar thieves operating in the area are whoonga addicts.

For the past two weeks, men have been jumping onto trucks, removing nets and stealing sugar bales off trucks. The men would walk up and down South Coast Road looking for trucks carrying sugar.
In an operation with a truck driver on Monday, police followed one of the men to South Coast Road. The three men were arrested when they tried to jump on to the truck at about 3pm. Police recovered two sugar bales stolen off the truck.
The men are being held at Montclair police station. Arresting officer W/O Pat Govender thanked Constables NG Ndlovu, SL Majozi, AG Yengwa and SE Ntobela for their assistance in the operation.
