Congregation heartbroken over one-year-old drowning

A memorial for the toddler will be held at Montclair Methodist Church on Saturday, 11 April at 10am.

AN ONE-year-old boy drowned on the premises of Montclair Methodist Church in Montclair Road on Monday, 6 April.

At about 5pm, the boy gained access to the pool of his parent’s home on the property through an open gate.
According to Montclair SAPS, the child was carrying a spoon in his hand, dropped it into the pool and went to fetch it out of the water.

A few minutes later the boy’s mother searched for him and found him floating in the pool. The mother jumped in to save him and rushed him to Clairwood Hospital.
However, the boy was announced dead on arrival.

Montclair Methodist Church, Reverend Ansie Liebenberg, says the congregation is heartbroken at the toddler’s death. “This is a difficult time for us, especially as we appointed a youth co-ordinator to take care of children. This little boy grew up in our church. He was part of us,” she said.
Liebenberg described the toddler’s parents as loving and added that the drowning was even sadder because both parents have a great love for children.

A memorial for the toddler will be held at Montclair Methodist Church on Saturday, 11 April at 10am.
