‘Know your neighbour’, urges new CPF chairman

The 65-year-old says residents must report crime to the police, no matter how small the incident.

MONTCLAIR Community Policing Forum (CPF) elected Roy Brown as its chairman for the next five years at an AGM held on Tuesday, 17 March.

Roy has been a resident of Montclair all his life and has been involved in patrolling Montclair with the CPF for the last three years.
Brown says his aim is to get more people involved in their local sector policing forums. “It’s important for people to know what’s going on around them,” he said. According to the new chairman, crime has escalated in the area over the past five years.

The 65-year-old says residents must report crime to the police, no matter how small the incident. “We need to get true crime statistics for the area. The only way we can get true statistics is if people report all crimes, even if someone just stole a spade,” he said.
To help combat crime Brown, along with residents, started a street committee in Glen Road, Montclair. “We were inspired by the recent meeting in Doddington Cresecent and Topping Place. People must get the momentum going. It’s imperative for people to know their neighbours,” he said.

The former New Forest High School pupil is a warehouse manager by profession. Brown says he looks forward to working with Montclair SAPS and help raise funds for the police station. “I would also like to see businesses in the area get involved.”
