Montclair seniors bid farewell to chairman

The club had its usual competition draw and Colin shared a joke.

WENDY from Montclair Methodist Church emphasised that she came in the name of Jesus when she opened the Montclair Senior Citizens Club meeting in devotions and prayer.

Naomi announced that she would be moving out of the area this month so the club would need a new chairman.

She called for volunteers from the members but as no-one responded, she asked members to think about how they could solve the problem. This is an unpaid position with no expense account and is purely a service of love and care to fellow seniors. The club then wished those going away on extended holiday ‘bon voyage’. John & Joy van der Bosch are going to Amsterdam and Rose Boyce will be away for six months. Members were sad to hear that Errol Thring has died after a long illness.

The club had its usual competition draw and Colin shared a joke. Members with birthdays this month were wished well for their special day. Montclair Seniors Club is thrilled to be having the Bessie Williams singers entertain at the next meeting in April, which is its birthday party, and reminds members that the club will provide the snacks but members will be required to pay the normal R5 for tea.

The list for the May outing is open and money must be paid by the April meeting. The cost is R50 for the lunch but members must have paid their annual subs of R30 to be eligible.

After tea there was an excellent and informative talk by Margaret from Tape Aids for the Blind. She informed everyone that the name was misleading as the service is free to anyone who is disabled in any way that makes it difficult to handle or read books and not just for the blind.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, 9 April at 9am for 9.30am.
