Donation sees school switch on R500,000 computer lab

GiveITback, which deals with disadvantaged schools has provided 30 computer laboratories around South Africa which impact about 26,000 pupils.

CLAIRWOOD Secondary School received a donation of a brand new classroom with computers on Friday, 27 February.

Two businesses giveITback and Net1, which is part of the Prism group, officially opened a computer laboratory at the school to the value of R500,000. The laboratory has 30 computers which will be used by the school’s pupils.
Business assurance manager for Net1 based in Rosebank Johannesburg, Janie Marx-Darby says the donation will help the school grow in the future. “We believe education is the foundation of shaping the future. This is the least we can do to ensure this school’s pupils become the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.

GiveITback, which deals with disadvantaged schools has provided 30 computer laboratories around South Africa which impact about 26,000 pupils. They also have five powered laboratories in KwaZulu-Natal that will be completed in the first week of March.

Executive assistant at giveITback, Shaeestha Tufail is excited about handing over the school’s new technology. “We decided to do this because technology belongs to everyone. We know that the school will promote technology among pupils,” she said.

Clairwood Secondary School principal, Yugan Naidoo welcomed the donation. “I’m excited at the generous sponsorship. The school will treasure this. Thank you to everyone involved. We will use the classroom to its maximum capacity,” said Naidoo.
Vanessa van Dyk, a teacher instrumental in bringing the laboratory to life, says companies that invest in schools empower pupils. “We hope that the relationship with these two companies will grow,” she said.
