Police discuss danger of drugs with youth

Police speak to parents about drugs.

YOUTH drug dependency was the topic of discussion for Brighton Beach SAPS members on Thursday, 15 January as they spoke to Clairwood families.

Brighton Beach SAPS media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux and the crime prevention unit visited informal settlements in Clairwood to deliver brochures and speak to parents about the impact drug use and dependency has on threatening the health, wellness and safety of youth.

The brochures listed prevalent drugs in the area and possible indicators for drug use in children. “Cannabis or dagga is the most common drug used by young children, when experimenting for the first time. Drugs make children vulnerable to sexual violation as they become powerless and have no control over their mind or body.

Also, upon becoming drug dependable children will turn to acts of crime to sustain their habit and even steal from their own community and family. Parents, guardian and caregivers must at all times ensure the health, wellness and safety of their children is a priority,” said Capt Le Roux.
