NPO thanks donors for giving back

WECDF appreciates what donors do for their community.

THE Wentworth Early Childhood Development Forum (WECDF) thanks businessmen and residents who have invested in their community by giving to those in need.

According to WECDF member, Gail Richards, many people are giving back to their communities and the results are the improvement of the lives of the less fortunate. She highlights three instances of such generosity and calls for more people to make a difference where they can.

The first example is the sponsorship by Donald Fynn and Jacinto Frazao, ex-Wentworth residents, of an outing for more than 250 children supported by the Wentworth Organisation of Women (Wow).

“The day outing at Anstey’s Beach was a special treat,” said Wow director, Patricia Dove who thanks the generous donors. “Through the help of these two businessmen, I was also able to screen deserving children for school uniforms.”

The second example was when Reshaard Fataar from Sydenham helped two families in Wentworth – one with a terminally ill father and another with an unemployed, single mother). School uniforms, stationery and supplies, along with groceries were given to the two families.

“You don’t always need to make a large financial commitment to make a big difference in your neighbouring community. You can do many small things to support the people and programmes that need help surviving and serving the less fortunate,” said Fataar.

In the final example, physics pupils, who were struggling in grade 11 were given one week’s worth of tutoring before the start of their matric year in 2015. This was sponsored by Donald Fynn, Antoinette Warren and Stephen Light.

The physics tutor, Mr Chetty, then offered the classes to an additional six pupils, bringing the total to 16.

“These lessons have given me a renewed hope – a head start for matric physics and helped me understand the work I would never have understood on my own. One day, when we too are successful, we will return to our school to sow back to the pupils below us,” said one of the pupils.

“The above examples of giving back highlight that as long as there is a need and there is transparency and accountability from the recipients, it is clear sponsors still believe that giving back can ignite change and positively impact a community,” said Richards.
