Woman critically injured after heated argument with boyfriend

A woman was attacked and left for dead by her boyfriend.

A WOMAN is in critical condition after a heated argument with her boyfriend allegedly led him to drive over her with his car on the Bluff on Saturday, 24 January

Brighton Beach SAPS officers responded to a call about an accident at about 8.40am on Charlmalan Road. Constable Bongiwe Mfeke spoke to the 35-year-old woman, who was lying in the road and being treated by paramedics. The woman said she and her boyfriend had gone into a fight and he allegedly hit her on the head with a brick and started to drive off. She alleges he reversed, knocked her face down on the ground and then drove over her before speeding away. Cst Mfeke could clearly see tyre marks on the woman’s body.

Warrant Officer Sibusiso Mbambo interviewed witnesses to the incident, who gave him a description of the car and driver. He set off in search of the man, while Cst Mfeke remained and took further statements. Having tracked down the man, W/O Mbambo quickly returned for a positive identification. The 22-year-old was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

The woman was taken to King Edward Hospital where she remains in a critical condition, with massive head injuries and a fractured arm. Her attacker appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Monday, 26 January and was remanded in police custody. Further investigations revealed the man was also wanted by Brighton Beach SAPS for using a motor vehicle without consent and theft out of a car in November 2014.

“Brighton Beach SAPS management commends Cst Mfeke and W/O Mbambo for the professional manner in which they dealt with the scene, gathered sufficient eye witnesses and traced the suspect,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
