Beaches in dire straits for too long

Our security vehicles will have quicker access to those living on Oakland Road and at the end of Gray Park Road and lest we forget this will result in better maintained verges and a better road and lighting.

EDITOR – Concerning Duncan du Bois’ letter in the Southlands Sun on 16 January.

I agree wholeheartedly with Duncan and Ivor. Our beaches have been in dire straights for too long now. I commented on the eTthekwini website regarding the upgrade, stating that the upgrade needs to get started as soon as possible.

Firstly, when the municipality starts on the upgrades, we will experience heavy traffic along Solomon Mhlangu Drive and Quality Street, with the only beach access being Foreshore Drive. And through this they will realise that there needs to be improvement on these roads to access our beaches. I also commented regarding Foreshore Drive that needs to continue to remain as a thorougfare from Ansteys to Brighton. Also I am keen on Oakland Road being used as an access road to the beaches, I only live three doors away from Oakland Road.

Our security vehicles will have quicker access to those living on Oakland Road and at the end of Gray Park Road and lest we forget this will result in better maintained verges and a better road and lighting. I have found that on social media there are too many negative comments, which leads to the postponement of any sort of upgrade. Something getting done is better than nothing getting done.

Also while excavation work gets started, our municipality will have security at the beaches to protect their equipment and materials, which can then just continue on as security for visitor protection.
