Visual arts pupils tops at New Forest

The school achieved 197 subject A’s.

MATRIC results for the national senior certificate were released across the country on Tuesday, 6 January.

New Forest High School achieved a 97,4% pass rate. Some 153 pupils sat for the exams of which 71% of students achieved a bachelor pass, 23,5% achieved a diploma pass and 5,3% received a higher certificate pass. The school achieved 197 subject A’s, 194 B’s and 198 C’s. Visual art was New Forest High’s top performing subject. as five students obtained 100% for the subject.
Munien Kershaw is the school’s top pupil achieving 6 A’s for English, Afrikaans, mathematics, life orientation, geography and physical science. Yajna Sewgolam achieved 5 A’s for Afrikaans, life orientation, mathematics, accounting, life sciences.
New Forest High School principal Cherie Pet is happy with the school’s results. “We anticipated these results. I congratulate our current matrics. I certainly hope they take the lessons they have learnt into their tertiary studies or working life,” said Pet.

Clairwood Secondary School’s class of 2014 achieved a 68,1% pass rate with 288 students writing their matric exams. “We are pleased with the pass rate. We have kept in line with KwaZulu-Natal and nationally our results are acceptable, but our pass rate has dropped. Pupils are entering into the second stage of their lives. The field is open to them. They’ve got to think smart,” said acting principal, Yugan Naidoo.
