Festive season crowds justify need to expedite Bluff beaches upgrade

EDITOR – The overcrowding of the Bluff’s main beaches, Ansteys and Brighton, over the festive season should provide ample justification to expedite the proposed upgrading of beaches along the Bluff peninsula.

In particular, the overcrowding emphasised the urgent need for a second access road to Brighton Beach.

As proposed by the former chairman of the Bluff Ratepayers’ Association, Ivor Aylward, provision of a new access road to Brighton Beach should be made in the vicinity of Oaklands Road and Marine Drive. Such an access would prove convenient for beachgoers travelling from the Merewent and Merebank areas.

That said, the proposal that the beaches upgrade should commence at Cuttings Beach in the vicinity of the Mlazi river, is eminently sensible as the potential of that beach and its proximity to the surrounding residential areas would serve to spread the crowds of beachgoers more evenly over the summer season.

Beachgoers from the Bluff, Merewent, Treasure beach and Merebank look forward to the speedy realisation of the beach upgrade proposals so that come the 2015/16 festive season, there is less congestion and overcrowding of the existing beaches.
