‘More to be done’ for SDB service delivery

SDB ABM to work towards better service delivery.

IMPROVED service delivery in the South Durban Basin (SDB) was the focus of a meeting on Friday, 21 November as municipal officials admitted more needs to be done.

The SDB Area Based Management (ABM) department hosted local stakeholders and municipal members at the service delivery workshop in Pinetown focused on the problems the area experiences and finding solutions.

“The aim was to revive the municipal service delivery forums, to make them effective and to create a plan to tackle the service delivery issues and create a positive vehicle for the community and the eThekwini Municipality to work together in the SDB area,” said SDB municipal services manager, Sifiso Xulu.

Short, medium and long-term solutions were tabled and local representatives were able to speak about their concerns. Land use management, business licencing, CCTV cameras, upgrades, law enforcement and integrated complaints management system were all discussed.

Newly-appointed head of eThekwini Municipality ABMs, Linda Mbonambi said that as a resident of the SDB she is aware of the many problems of neglect that need to be addressed and that the SDB ABM must find ways to work with all stakeholders in the area, including the business community.

It was agreed that service delivery forums will meet bi-monthly, with the first to take place in early December.
