Anti-violence campaign takes root through goodie bags

Police work on 16 days of activism campaign.

BRIGHTON Beach SAPS started its campaign for the 16 Days of Activism on Tuesday, 25 November by handing out goodie bags to shoppers at Hillside Mall.

16 Days of Activism is a global campaign that runs from 25 November to 10 December. The focus of the station’s campaign is the health, wellness and safety of children and the dangers women and children are exposed to on a daily basis.

The bags included brochures on child abuse, school bullying, drug abuse and child safety and a bookmark with important contact numbers.

“I believe parents, caregivers, guardians, educators and teenagers who received these wellness packs will benefit from the information they contain. The aim is to empower the readers to know the threats that children face on a daily basis, how to identify signs of abuse and how to intervene. I am hopeful the recipients will also empower others by sharing the content. Gender-based and child violence devalues human dignity and the self-worth of the person and must be stopped in our society through creating awareness,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

Brighton Beach SAPS management thanks the management of Hillside Mall for hosting and sponsoring the literature, Capt Le Roux and reservist Capt Avril Fabre and reservist Constable Carmen Jenkins for their participation.
