Convent school feeds soup kitchen efforts

School gives donations o needy.

OUR Lady of Natal Convent donated much-needed food to assist Christ the King Church soup kitchen in its mission to help needy families.

In September the Wentworth parish members sent out a call for assistance, which was heeded by the local school. Through an outreach programme, the school collected canned food and sandwich spreads.

The soup kitchen, which was started more than 20 years ago, provides food for families in need every Thursday through donations from community members, businesses and other organisations. “The church is faced daily by families, single mothers and even children in need of assistance with food,” said Father Jean-Baptiste Mpuni.

The parish thanks school principal, Fiona Coetzee and the pupils for the donation. “With the holidays approaching, there will be a greater need to feed, as there are many poor families in the community so any donations help,” said Father Mpuni.
